Shanghai to Tibet Train Schedule

Shanghai is located on the east coast of China, and on the Yangtze River at the mouth of the sea. Shanghai currently has four railway stations, Shanghai Railway Station, Shanghai Hongqiao Station, Shanghai South Railway Station and Shanghai West Railway Station. Train Z164 starts from Shanghai to Lhasa.

I. Where is the Shanghai Railway Station?

Shanghai Railway Station is located in Jing'an District of Shanghai which mainly sells ordinary trains tickets from Shanghai to North China, to Southwest China and to Northwest China. Many other long-distance sleeper trains also start from Shanghai Railway Station, such as trains from Shanghai to Beijing, to Guangzhou, and to Chengdu. So does the train from Shanghai to Lhasa.

1. How to Enter Shanghai Railway Station

Shanghai Station is divided into two squares by north and south. Passengers can enter the station from both the north and the south squares. If you take the subway to Shanghai Station and then enter the train station, please pay attention to the signs after the subway and follow the signs to the train entrance. Passengers can enter through the north-south entrance and pass the escalator to the second floor central corridor. There are waiting rooms on both sides of the central corridor. Then they can enter into the waiting hall of train Z164 according to the outdoor electronic display instructions of each waiting room.

2. Luggage Storage in Shanghai Station

There are several luggage storage points in Shanghai Railway Station. Please look carefully at the hanging signs to find those information. Since the train station is an area with crowded gathering, the environment is quite complicated. So please try to carry valuables with you rather than leave them some place else.

3. Other railway stations in Shanghai

Located in Putuo District of Shanghai, Shanghai West Railway Station is an intercity railway station which connects Shanghai with Nanjing. It currently sells intercity express train tickets to Nanjing, to Jiangsu, to Wuxi and to Suzhou.

Shanghai Hongqiao Station is located in Minhang District which is close to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport. Shanghai Hongqiao Station mainly sells high-speed train tickets from Shanghai to Beijing, Shanghai to central China, Shanghai to southwest and Shanghai to south of China.

Shanghai South Railway Station is located in Xuhui District which mainly sells ordinary trains tickets from Shanghai to major cities in southern China.

Ⅱ How to Buy Tickets When You Take a Train in Shanghai Station?

1. How to buy a train ticket from Chengdu to Lhasa?

Required documents: Home Visit Permit (Hong Kong and Macao visitors); letter of entry (original), passport (foreign tourists and Taiwanese tourists)

Home Visit Permit: For Hong Kong and Macao residents travel to and from the Mainland, similar to the mainland identity card.

Letters to Tibet: For foreign tourists and Taiwanese tourists to enter Tibet.

ID card or passport: According to the train ticket real name system, in mainland China, if you purchase a train ticket, you need to provide valid paperwork such as ID card and passport. The name of the passenger must be the same as the one used.

Method of purchase

If you choose to purchase your ticket at Shanghai Railway Station or through railway station agency, please ensure that you have received your letter of admission in advance and present your ID at the window, such as Home Visit Permit, Pass Letter and Passport. Train tickets to Lhasa can be purchased at all train station ticket offices in Chengdu.

During the peak season (June-August), the train tickets from Shanghai to Lhasa are more difficult to purchase. It is recommended to choose a plane as a way to travel in Tibet. Or you can find a travel agency in advance to buy a train ticket. It is also a good choice to fly to the starting point of the Railway -- Xining. And then passengers can purchase the train ticket from Xining Railway Station.

2.How to pull in a station after purchasing tickets?

After the ticket is purchased, the security check-in will be carried out through the entrance port. When passing the security check, proof of identity and train ticket will be required. Both North and South Square of Shanghai Railway Station have a pit stop to pass the security check-in station. Then wait in the designated waiting area. When checking in the ticket, please follow the instruction ticket to enter the platform.

Ⅲ How to Transfer to Shanghai Station?

1. How to arrive at Shanghai Station from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport?

Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is about 18 kilometers from Shanghai Station. You can choose to take the subway and taxi. The stops for subway are shown in Italic.

Subway: If you are out of Terminal l, take the subway line 10 on Hongqiao No. 1 Terminal, then change to the No. 1 line on Shaanxi South Road and get off at Shanghai Railway Station. The time is about 40 minutes. If the terminal is No. 2, get on Line 2 on the Hongqiao Terminal 2, then change to Line 1 on the People's Square. You can get off at Shanghai Railway Station for about 50 minutes. As Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport is close to the city and the subway rail transit is convenient, Hongqiao International Airport does not have direct access to Shanghai Airport Shuttle Bus. If you have certain amount of baggage to transfer, you can choose to take a taxi. It takes about 30 minutes by taxi from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport to Shanghai Station.

2. How to get to Shanghai Station from Shanghai Pudong International Airport?

Shanghai Pudong International Airport is located in Pudong New Area, about 50 kilometers away from Shanghai Station. It can be accessed by subway, airport bus and taxi.

Because of the long distance, the transfer of subway is more troublesome, so it is not recommended to take it. Shanghai Pudong Airport has airport buses to Shanghai Station which is called Airport Line 5. This line is a good choice. It takes about one hour to travel from Shanghai Pudong International Airport to Shanghai Station. In addition, you can choose to take a taxi or a charter to Shanghai Station for about 40 minutes.

Tips: There is a maglev train at Shanghai Pudong International Airport or you can say Shanghai Longyang Road Station. The train is about 30 kilometers long. It is the first maglev commercial line in the world. You can choose to take this maglev train to Longyang Road Station and transfer to other means of transportation to Shanghai Railway Station.

3. How to get to Shanghai Railway Station from Hongqiao Railway Station in Shanghai?

Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station is adjacent to Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport, about 20 kilometers away from Shanghai Railway Station. You can choose to transfer by subway or taxi.

Metro Line 10 to Line 1: Take Metro Line 10 on Hongqiao Terminal 1, then transfer to Line 1 on Shaanxi South Road, and get off at Shanghai Railway Station for about 40 minutes.

Metro Line 2 to Line 1: Get on Metro Line 2 in Hongqiao Terminal 2, then transfer to Metro Line 1 in the 【People's Square】, and get off at Shanghai Railway Station. The time is about 50 minutes.

If you have certain amount of baggage and it is inconvenient to transfer to the subway, you can choose to take a taxi. The taxi ride from Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport to Shanghai Station takes about 40 minutes.

4. How to get from Shanghai South Railway Station to Shanghai Railway Station?

Shanghai South Railway Station is about 15 kilometers away from Shanghai Railway Station. You can choose to take the subway or you can go by taxi.

Metro Line 1 and Metro Line 3 can be boarded directly from Shanghai South Station to Shanghai Station. Get on at Shanghai South Station and get off at Shanghai Railway Station. It takes about 30 minutes. If you go by taxi, it’s ten minutes earlier.

5. How to get from Shanghai West Railway Station to Shanghai Railway Station?

Shanghai West Railway Station is about 9 kilometers away from Shanghai Railway Station. You can choose to take the subway and taxi for transfer.

Take Line 11 at Shanghai West Railway Station and transfer to Line 3 at Caoyang Road. Get off at Shanghai Railway Station for about 20 minutes. It takes about 10 minutes by taxi.
